FBTA Announces $600,000+ Gift for the Advancement of Pediatric Brain Cancer Research
The Holiday Season came bearing gifts at an unprecedented level for the FBTA in 2011. The loyalty of our long-time supporters continues to remain strong, despite the still-sluggish economy; and, as the year came to a close, the generosity of our donors was highlighted by the new commitments made to the organization.
The FBTA is especially delighted to acknowledge its newest donors, the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation(MCHF) and the Children's Brain Trust (CBT) for their recent gift of over $600,000! Their combined gift to the FBTA will be used to fund an initiative focused on identifying and granting monies to organizations and/or individuals that will hasten the advancement of pediatric brain cancer research. Only 4% of the NCI budget is currently dedicated to pediatric cancer research.
As many of you may already know, last month the U.S. Senate introduced a resolution that reaffirms the nation's long-standing commitment to cancer research. However, we can not count on our government to sustain the level of research funding we need to bring us the cures we seek. Funding must come on a much greater scale from the private sector.
We laud MCHF and CBT for their leadership. Their gift will be used to create the Bret Hale Memorial Fund at FBTA and allow this organization to make a real and meaningful difference. With the science of cancer realizing incredible changes this last decade, we must increase our commitment to fund research so we can conquer brain cancer, and all cancers, once and for all. The actions of MCHF and CBT has provided the FBTA with an outstanding opportunity to do just that!
